Delete in the app (fastest)
You can permanently delete your account directly in the GayWhere app:
- Open GayWhere and go to the You tab
- Tap the gear (Settings) → Account
- Tap Delete Account and confirm
The steps are the same on iPhone and Android. You may be asked to sign in again to confirm it's you. Deletion takes effect immediately: you're signed out, your friends can no longer see you, and your account can't be recovered.
Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account — use the steps above or email us.
Request deletion by email
If you can't access the app (lost device, can't sign in, or you've already uninstalled it), email us and we'll delete your account for you:
Email: contact@gaywhere.app with the subject "Account deletion request"
Please send the request from the email address you sign in to GayWhere with (or include it in the message) so we can verify it's really you. If you sign in with your phone number, include that number instead — we may ask you to confirm the request. We process deletion requests within 30 days, and you'll receive a confirmation when it's done.
What gets deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your account and sign-in details (email address and/or phone number)
- Your profile: display name, profile picture, profile photos (including any declined photo still held for review), emoji, and bio
- Your friends list, your friend code and gaywhere.app/u/ link, friend requests you sent or received, and people you blocked
- Event invites you sent or received, and the replies to them
- Your saved events and their statuses (going, maybe, can't go, ticket), followed venues/parties/organizations, and saved searches
- Your notification history and notification preferences
- Your premium status record (to cancel billing, also cancel the subscription in the App Store or Google Play)
- Your push notification tokens (no further notifications)
Your friends will no longer see you in their friends list, feed, or invites.
What may be kept
- Reports you filed: reports about events, venues, photos, or other users are kept so we can finish acting on them, but your email address is removed from them.
- Tag votes: votes you cast on event tags stay as anonymous votes, with no name or email attached.
- Event submissions that were published: events approved into the public listing remain (they're community content), but they are no longer linked to your identity.
- Community photos you submitted: approved venue photos may remain in the gallery; email us if you want specific photos removed as part of your deletion request.
- Aggregated analytics: anonymous usage statistics that can't identify you.
- Backups: copies may remain in routine system backups for a limited time until they are overwritten.
- Records we're legally required to keep (e.g., purchase records for tax purposes), retained only as long as the law requires.
